The canals of Jefferson-Chalmers
Further along the east riverfront, the Jefferson-Chalmers neighborhood was built around a network of residential canals, Harbor Island, Klenk Island and Fox Creek among them, that connect homes directly to the Detroit River and have earned the area the nickname "the Venice of Detroit." Many of those canal homes have their own private dock behind the house rather than a marina slip, and Brad works those docks the same way he'd work a marina berth.
The river is not the lake
The Detroit River has a real current running through it year-round, which changes how boats are handled compared to the open water of Lake St. Clair: docking, fendering and how a boat sits on its lines all account for the flow.
